What is Journaling
Journaling is the act of expressing thoughts or feelings through writing. It can be done by writing in a journal or notebook, or even on a single piece of paper.
You can write in full sentences, story form, bullet points, lists, or even draw or doodle.
It can truly be anything you want that helps you release your feelings and thoughts.
If you’re feeling upset or angry at something, a lot of times expressing those frustrations can help you move on from them.
By releasing them into journaling you can allow the emotion to move through you and then let it go. Instead of holding it in and causing tension in your body and mind.
There are so many things you can journal about. Some people journal about all the wonderful things that happen in their lives.
Other people journal about the things they aspire to accomplish. They write about their dreams and everything they want to achieve.
You can also journal about your frustrations. Things that may be stuck in your mind, or that are causing you pain. Journaling about it can help diminish the pain you’re feeling.
A lot of time simply letting those thoughts out can help to make the problem not seem so big. It allows you to take a step back and look at the thoughts running through your mind from a new perspective.
How to Practice Journaling
The wonderful thing about journaling is that you can do it any way you please. You can personalize it to what you enjoy the most.
If you love to write long paragraphs in story form about your life, then, by all means, go ahead.
If you feel like long and proper sentences make journaling feel more difficult and turn you away from it, then start simple. Start by jotting down any thoughts you have in your head.
Sometimes you might not know where to start. The good thing is that any random thought can get you started.
It’s always easier to continue writing once you start. Sometimes you just need a little something to break the writing ice.
The wonderful thing about journaling is that it can be in whatever form you want.
There is no specific way to journal. There is no right or wrong way. The right way is simply the way that aligns with you, the way that allows you to express what you’ve been holding inside.
You can start by writing some random thoughts down, then if you feel like you need to doodle, get that pen or pencil doodling girl!
Journaling is not supposed to feel like a chore or something you must do. It’s about creating a space for you to be free.
And, if your journaling practice looks different every time, that’s alright!
Remember it’s all for your benefit. So do what feels right for you.
